Welcome to Grade 11 Visual arts! This course is the second half of the two year arts program for secondary 4 and 5 students. This program has been developed to allow students in the senior levels to explore the visual arts while building technical skill and experimenting with a wide range of materials and media. Teacher-led formative exercises will be coupled with more open-ended summative tasks allowing for the development of thorough artistic process. This inquiry-based program will provide students with the opportunity explore, examine and discuss work from past and present artists in order to inform their own artistic practice and to understand the role of arts within society.
Our Term 1 unit is called North American Art Trends and sees the students explore how socio-political/ cultural events from each decade of the 20th century affected the art that was produced and popularized. They will create timelines and art work related to their findings.
** IB Art ePortfolio: The IB Art ePortfolio has replaced the moderation process for year 5 students in the MYP. The portfolio will be a unit of study that is partially laid out by the IBO and is taught in all MYP schools. The theme of the unit will be announced this fall. The unit will take place between January and April ( approx.) and will follow a similar format to our previous units. Please note there can be no extensions for this project without a major medical reason (with supporting documentation). All portions of the project must be submitted on, or before the due date. Every unit will include an examination of past and present art work and theory, and will provide opportunities for students to create/perform both individually and collaboratively. Within the context of this course, students will be exposed to, and will discuss a wide range of art forms and styles. Both the Quebec Education Program Competencies and the IB Middle Years Programme Criteria will be covered and assessed throughout the year. Please see the ABOUT section for details. UPCOMING DATES:
